Facepaint UK Blog

Welcome to our Blog, stuffed with information and some timeless step by steps. This is also where we keep all the articles that once graced the Member pages of The Mirror, our online magazine at the previous Facepaint UK website. They date from 2005 onwards, so some are a little outdated in style or content, but some are not! It would be such a shame to lose this invaluable resource and slice of history, so we have transferred them all as they are, warts and all!

THREE CHRISTMAS STEP BY STEPS !!!

Mar 15, 2017

FESTIVE POINSETTIA

This is a very adaptable design, Bibi demonstrated it at the Bristol Convention, here it is again for those of you that missed it, or were too tired to take it all in!

STEP 1. Paint a thick dark green line with 2 curves, I used Wolfe dark green, and sponge out on the inside with Grimas pearlised white while still damp. Make sure the line includes the eyebrow or it will look messy. Use...

BIBI ON SPEED!

Mar 15, 2017

Have you ever wondered - am I too slow? This article may answer your question, and at least give you tips on how to get faster. After a hectic summer it might be time for a little reflection and to take stock of your speed.

And no, Bibi's not resorted to drugs - yet!

Here we are at the end of another very busy summer, filled with jobs of all kinds from the fab to the frustrating, the sublime...

CARO ON COLOUR

Mar 15, 2017

We often talk about how important colour theory is when face painting, but despite nodding wisely I wonder how many of us really understand how to use it effectively. When teaching a typical girly face paint, Bibi and I often advise that students put a cool blue or turquoise on the eyelids, and warm pinks or oranges on the cheeks. All fairly obvious even to little girls, but our face painting students are colour rebels by definition, and...

TIGER COMPETITION RESULTS

Mar 15, 2017

Wow, you loved this competition!

Thank you so much to all the facepainters that sent in their fab tigers. It just goes to show where a bit of visual inspiration can take you. The following pictures are all our favourites for all sorts of reasons - but we had to choose, and hard though that is, there was one which stood out. We are having several winners who will all be receiving a Facepaint-UK prize, but the Cat that...

Tiger Step by Step

Mar 15, 2017

This is the basic Tiger that we teach at The London School of Face Painting. It is not just a beginners Tiger, we all need to be able to do a very fast tiger for busy queues as well as the beautiful designs that facepainters sent in for the competition. Even the most simple face paint will look good if the paint is applied well.

First step is to sponge orange around the outside of the face...

Black Spiderman

Mar 15, 2017

He's arrived! And being asked for already. They didn't give a thought for us poor facepainters when they dreamed this one up, but hopefully we've cracked it for you. Bibi was inundated with requests for him at a party last weekend, and took a couple of useful pictures, so we're publishing her first go at this challenge with some advice on what products to use.

You need to make a decision about which way round you're going to do...

TWIN S-PEAKS

Getting Inside the Wolfe Brothers

This is one of the most interesting conversations you can have, especially if you are a Gemini like me. The Wolfe Brothers are almost identical twins who rocked our little world when Creative Facepainting was released into our sleepy hollow (we all thought we were so clever) and we haven't looked back. Of course we were all very clever, it's just that we hadn't looked over to that side of the pond that divides...

PEACE STEP BY STEP

This was the face that won 'Best Design', 'Best Technical Ability' and 'Facepainter of the Year' at the Face Conference in Scotland in January! As the artist was Facepaint UK's very own Bibi Freeman, we are able to bring you a Step by Step breakdown of exactly how it was done. Over to you Bibi....

Thank you, thank you. I would also like to thank my friends, my family, everyone that's ever been nice...

FACE CONFERENCE 2007

Mar 15, 2017

Friday morning dawned clear and calm rather like a very naughty child trying to look innocent after wrecking the best room. Devastating storms had whipped most of the UK the day before and so it was with some trepidation that we set off from South London to North Queensferry in Scotland. Nervously we listened to radio reports of Planes delayed and Motorways closed and of course Train services disrupted (a bad case of PMT), yet the journey, a mere...

DO I HAVE TO DO A TAX RETURN?

Mar 15, 2017

Unfortunately the answer is "Yes!" but try to look on it as another step in your successful career.

If you have been earning money as a face painter you must fill in a tax return. This does not necessarily mean you will have to pay tax yet as of course you will have your personal allowance and maybe some professional expenses that can be set against your earnings, however it is no use just assuming you are earning less...

Telford Convention 2006

Mar 15, 2017

There was an impressive roster of lecturers this year (us included of course) and I'm sure everyone was looking forward to picking up some special secrets from the amazing Lynne Jamieson, the wizard from Oz!

This is Lynne Jamieson's class 'The Shadow of a Bat' and this was the sort of thing that came out of it! It's a game of spot the bat!

Jinny was almost unrecognisable in her natural dark hair colour, and impressed...

INTRODUCING LINZI FOXCROFT- A SUPER PAINTER

Mar 15, 2017

Linzi Foxcroft took The UK Face and Body Convention by storm at Telford this year. She not only won the prestigious award of "World Wide Face Painter of the Year" in the experienced class, but she was also chosen by facepaint-uk.com's undercover agents, as the painter who had painted the best make up for the fancy dress Gala Dinner.

The theme was Comics and Super Heroes and everyone had made a fabulous effort with their costumes but we...

THE ZOMBIES HIT TOWN

Mar 15, 2017

Following the Halloween Monster class at the London School of Face Painting Kat Sinclair decided to take her horrible new skills out and about. She lives to tell the tale...just!

Saturday 28th October - just another shopping day for thousands of Londoners and tourists in Oxford Street. But behind the scenes the zombies are preparing to give the capital a right old scare!

I found out about this great bunch of people when I was trawling the internet...
